HAPPY NEW YEAR! This is my first post for 2016 and I'll have a few more because I've been quite busy!
I swear my sewing life is like a comedy! This block was quite interesting for me.
FIRST, I tried (I really did!) the back basting technique. I read & listened to everything on the internet I could find on this technique and after 2 red leaves, I decided to go back to wash-away applique. (chuckle) I'm not sure if the block is too big or my hands aren't coordinated enough or maybe I just need MORE PRACTICE, but it literally was like I was wrestling the leaf as I was stitching it down. And, well, I didn't have the right color thread anyway so that was my final reason for going back to wash away. I'll keep plugging at it.
THEN, I zipped through all the pieces and was so excited to be done with that middle yellow part and wash away the blue lines, that it hit me! LIKE A BRICK!! I didn't use stabilizer on the back for machine applique. AHHHH.... But you know what? I had to clean the house and take down the Christmas decorations, so I wasn't going to stress..much. HAHAHAHAH - yes, I actually laughed because I looked at the block and thought, how can this pretty little block cause so much chaos?
In the end, I love this block and when it joins the others, I'll have stories to tell.
You can still purchase your pattern through the quilt museum and join the sew along journey with everyone..
